The short version

Meetings are not recorded. Audio and video are never stored — they pass between participants through our server and are gone. We keep a small amount of technical data to stop abuse and to make rooms work, most of it hashed, and we delete it on a schedule. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

About your IP address

Your IP address is not stored in our database in readable form. It is converted into a keyed hash, which lets us recognise repeat requests from the same address without holding the address itself.

The unhashed address is held briefly in temporary storage — at most 24 hours — so that rate limiting and the waiting room work during a session. After that it is gone automatically.

What we never store

  • Audio or video from a call. Nothing is recorded.
  • Messages sent in a call. They travel directly between participants and are not kept after the call ends.
  • Your precise location.
  • Your IP address in readable form, beyond the temporary window described above.

Storage in your browser

We use no advertising or analytics cookies. We store four things in your own browser, which never reach our server unless you act on them:

  • talkvoo-name — your display name, so you do not retype it
  • talkvoo-theme — light or dark
  • talkvoo-sounds — whether join and leave tones play
  • talkvoo-host:<room> — proves you created a room, so only you can change who gets in

Clearing your browser data removes all of them.

Who else is involved

talkvoo runs on our own servers in Finland, operated by Hetzner. Audio and video pass through our own media server; they are not sent to a third-party video provider.

We do not sell data, and we do not share it with advertisers. We would disclose data only where legally required.

Your rights

If you are in the UK or EU you have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to how it is used. Because meetings do not require an account, we usually cannot connect stored data to a person on request — the hashes are designed to prevent exactly that. If you can identify a specific room and time, contact us and we will do what we can.
